green purchase cacao beans directly from the plantation owner, Bertil Akesson. Established in 1924, Akesson’s land spreads over 5400 acres and employs 700 people. In addition to cacao, the estate grows ylang ylang,peppercorns, coffee and other tropical crops.

At every step in the process, from planting to packaging beans for export, rigorous quality control is the hallmark of Akesson’s operation.Akesson cacao is sold throughout the world to a select group of fine chocolate makers.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Akesson employees are allocated 740 plantation acres for the planting and harvesting of rice for their own consumption. In addition, employees benefit from electricity generated by solar power on site. The quality of the cacao exported by Akesson over the last 15 years has placed Madagascar in the list of fine cacao producing countries. The Akesson Plantation, supplying 90% of the fine chocolate labelled “Madagascar”, has literally put Madagascar on the map of fine cacao!
